Skeletal Frame Completed for Qwerty
April 6th, 2009
Framework has been completed for Qwertysaurus Rex. Qwertysaurus Rex is a community art project that expresses our need to handle electronic waste responsibly. The natural resources, toxic materials and packaging associated with electronics production, combined with rapid obsolescence and mass consumption, have created mountains of toxic waste in our landfills.
Qwertysaurus Rex is the dinosaur in the room with a warning to deliver: “What happened to me can happen to you! Let’s put an end to the Waste Age before it puts an end to us.”
The community is invited to finish Qwertysaurus Rex on Earth Day (April 19th) by bringing ONE of the following pieces of electronic waste per person: computer keyboard, computer mouse, cell phone, or TV remote. Help us put the skin on our dinosaur! Only listed items will be accepted- one per person.
The Earth Day planning committee would like to thank Doug Beals and Clark deVries for building Q.R., and Secure Recycling for donating the cost of recycling the electronic waste at the conclusion of Earth Day.

Main Stage goes Solar
April 2nd, 2009SWT Energy Inc. has agreed to provide us with 550 Watts of PV from their program trailer. This should be enough to satisfy our demand for the stage events. Clouds will not be an issue, as the trailer has a battery bank system that will be fully-charged.

On April 1st, Milo Mumgaard was hired by Mayor Chris Beutler to be the Lincoln’s Sustainability Coordinator.
One of Milo’s first major tasks will be to set up the Administration’s sustainability program. His early work will focus on preparing the city to receive energy stimulus funds.
Milo will serve as a tremendous administrator who can get things done for the city. He will help to foster the strong community partnerships that will be essential as we construct a vision to make Lincoln a sustainable city.
