“Style Your Sole” event planned for Earth Day
March 15th, 2010
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, The Public and the Lincoln Earth Day Committee have teamed up to throw a TOMS Style Your Sole party. The event is set to take place at Lincoln’s Antelope Park on Saturday, April 24, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
What, exactly, is a Style Your Sole party?
It is an event where participants gather together and creatively customize their own blank canvas TOMS shoes. SYS party attendees can decorate the shoes themselves, or they can opt for local artists in attendance to add some decorative flair to the kicks.
“It’s a great way for people to get together, to share, and to be expressive,” says Jesse Flinck, director of operations for The Public.
Besides coming away from the event with a one-of-a-kind pair of shoes, SYS party participants are also lending a helping hand to those who may need it the most – for each pair of TOMS purchased, one pair will be given to a child in need, based on TOMS’ founding “One for One” philosophy.
To get in on the fun, SYS participants must go The Public (1033 O St.) on or before April 10 in order to get sized for TOMS shoes and register for the party. The registration fee of $50 covers the cost of a pair of TOMS and the supplies for the shoe customization.
Once registered, SYS party-goers need only to head over to Antelope Park on April 24, imaginations in tow, for an inspired and entertaining commemoration of Earth Day.
For more information, call The Public at (402) 742-4000 or email rentsdue2003@yahoo.com

Earth Day 2010, Planning underway
January 13th, 2010We are very excited to announce that planning has begun for the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. This year’s Earth Day celebration is being headed by The Cleaner Greener Lincoln Initiative, a divison of the Mayor’s office. The first of many brainstorming meetings was well attended and we are excited about both the magnitude and energy of this year’s planning committee. Also exciting is the participation of the City in this year’s event. This year’s event promises to be the best yet.

Recyclemania
January 12th, 2010Beginning on January 17th and running through March 27th, UNL will be participating in its first year in Recyclemania. Recyclemania is a 10 week recycling competition between universities across the nation. Last year alone, 513 universities competed and recycled a total of 69.4 million pounds of what would have otherwise gone to landfills. UNL will compete in the Percentage of Waste and Per Capita categories. Last year, UNL recycled 35% of its waste and hopes to increase that percentage this year. With the length of the competition at 10 weeks, we are striving to influence effective life style and behavioral changes in our students and faculty that will benefit both the environment and UNL over the long term. Chancellor Perlman supports the effort and recognizes the “importance of individual efforts of every member of the University community.
Recyclemania at UNL is sponsored by the UNL Environmental Resource Center and ASUN. See www.unerc.unl.edu for more information or contact Katie Clear at unerc2@gmail.com
